A wickedly funny high school comedy — think Mean Girls meets The Craft.
“This is a fantastical story with magical elements, but a lot of the human drama feels true to life.” - THE BLACKLIST
THE PITCH
B*tchcraft is a coming-of-age high school comedy told through the lens of witchcraft. It’s Mean Girls meets The Craft — a sharp, nostalgic, and wickedly funny look at what it means to come into womanhood, power, and self in the South of 2009.
The story follows Luna and Cordelia, two outsider best friends who’ve always felt othered. Cordelia’s mom abandoned her, leaving her desperate to feel loved. Luna is grappling with her sexuality and self love. They’re polar opposites — but like sisters. When they discover they’re witches, they form a secret coven with a group of fellow misfits, and what starts as playful rebellion — cursing the mean girls, glamor spells before prom, freezing a food fight — spirals into something darker, and way more dangerous than they expected.
Their biggest rivals? A Southern squad of mean-girl evangelists called The A’s — think matching Bibles and style — who embody the patriarchy they’ve been raised under. So at its core, the movie becomes a battle between religion and witchcraft, repression and rebellion, conformity and self-expression.
It’s a heightened version of girlhood — full of gossip, glitter, heartbreak, and hormones — but told through witchcraft as a metaphor for womanhood.
Underneath all the camp and chaos, it’s really about sisterhood — two girls learning what it means to own their power, even when the world tells them to be small.
